COS Productions (formerly Cirencester Operatic Society) are bringing the story of the girl who just wanted to be loved to The Barn Theatre in Cirencester on May 16-May 20.

Charity Hope Valentine wears her heart on her sleeve in this endearing, and often funny story of a New York girl desperately seeking a man to make her life complete, and take her away from the Fandango Bar where she works as a Dance Hall Hostess.

Along the way she meets exciting characters such as Vittorio Vidal - an Italian movie star, and Daddy - the leader of an evangelical church.

This much loved musical premiered on Broadway in 1966 where it was nominated for nine Tony Awards and also ran in the West End.

It was made into a film starring Shirley Maclaine in 1969.

The show stopping hits include Big Spender, The Rhythm of Life and If They Could See Me Now.

Director, Rachel Wright, said: “We performed this show 14 years ago and had a great time doing so.

"We decided to give it another go for both our new and old audiences. It has been great fun rehearsing the show and we hope this will come across in the performances on stage. It really is a musical that has something for everyone”.

  • Tickets can be purchased from cosproductions.org or the Visitors Information Centre in Cirencester.

Award winning COS Productions are always on the look out for new members so if you have ever thought about treading the boards why not get in touch.

Their next production is Fiddler on the Roof in October and there will be holding a launch night on Monday, May 29.
