STROUD Short Stories returns for its 14th short story event, A Ship Called Crazy, at the SVA in Stroud on Sunday, May 21 at 8pm.

And on this occasion six of the 10 authors reading are new to Stroud Short Stories.

One is Sian Breeze from Chalford with her story ‘Spring Clean’. Sian’s husband Alex Breeze read his story ‘Flickers’ at the very first Stroud Short Stories event in June 2011.

The evening will showcase a huge range of writing styles and subject matter, including stories about a meeting with an estranged father, a woman who seems to want to take her family on a dangerous sea journey and a photographer’s brilliant idea for self-promotion.

But these stories are not always what they seem to be. As always there is humour as well as beauty and poignancy.

SSS organiser John Holland said: “This time we received a bumper crop of over a hundred short stories, and the quality was probably the best ever. It’s going to be a cracker of an evening on 21 May.

“It was a thrill too on this occasion to judge with brilliant short story writer Ali Bacon for the first time. The judging duties are both arduous and huge fun.”

Tickets have already sold out – for the eighth SSS event in succession. The writers will read to 70 people.
