AS AUTUMN arrives in all its glory, Berkeley Castle are inviting the public to their Michaelmas Harvest Day on Sunday, October 1, to celebrate the British countryside and everything it has to offer.

This is a chance to meet local food and drink producers, as well as sample delicious produce, from cider and chutney to chocolate and ice-cream. Children can try their hand at cupcake decorating, and local craftspeople will be demonstrating their expert skills in lace-making, fly fishing, bee-keeping, and wool spinning.

There will be farm animals in the Inner Bailey, with charming breeds like Dexter cows, pygmy goats and hairy kunekune piglets.

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, the National Farmers Union, Vale of Berkeley Railway, and Severn Area Rescue Association will all be represented on the day.

As always, guests can immerse themselves in the rich history of the castle. Explore the Tudor Costume Exhibition in the Great Hall, where each stunning costume is meticulously copied from an original portrait.

There will be live musical entertainment throughout the day, as well as traditional Morris Dancing displays.

Also, David Smith will be signing copies of his book, 'Edward II: His Last Months and his Monument in the Kings’ Gallery,' right next to the cell where the monarch was reputedly murdered.

Nearly all activities are included in the entrance fee.

Berkeley Castle is open from Sunday to Wednesday each week until the end of October, from 11am-5pm, with last admission at 4pm.
