TV AND film composer Phil Mountford is returning to Quenington with his critically acclaimed five piece ensemble, Fordante, with their concert finale as part of their 2017 UK tour, on Saturday, October 7.

The show From Puccini to the Movies features light classics, opera arias and movie soundtracks from composers such as Strauss, Puccini and Ravel along with a mix of his own film inspired music.

Fordante’s repertoire includes classics such as Bolero, Sleeping Beauty Waltz, Orpheus Of The Underworld, Roses From The South, Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, performed alongside popular film soundtracks and some of the composer’s own enchanting world and Celtic inspired songs.

Phil has composed the soundtracks to films such as Vendetta (Danny Dyer), Journey To Le Mans (Patrick Stewart) and Breakdown (Craig Fairbrass) and had his music heard and performed worldwide. His easy listening style has meant he has scored for TV and adverts as well as children’s theatre and last year’s choral work “Suite For The Fallen Soldier” which was commissioned to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Mountford created the five piece ensemble Fordante (violin, cello, viola, oboe, piano) to perform easy listening, lighter repertoire and film music and has been entertaining audiences throughout the UK with his unique, accessible take on classical music, for many years.

Using films clips from around the world, the immersive and relaxing musical experience is enhanced through the use of projected video montages, specifically created to tell the story of the music.

Phil said: “It’s great to hear so many people say after a Fordante concert how moved they were by the music. We try to break down that stigma surrounding classical music and to engage with our audience.

“Whether that’s by using video, lighting, a popular music mix and regular turn around of music we show that classical can be fun, relaxing and entertaining. But most of all enjoyable.”

  •  “From Puccini to the Movies” is part of a 23 date UK tour supported by Arts Council England to engage communities by performing a mix of popular and well known classics and music from the movies along with a handful of new works.
  •  Fordante can be seen at the Quenington Village Hall, on Saturday, October 7 at 7pm. Box Office 01285 752729. Visit fordante.com for more.
