THE Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham brings a brand-new show to Gloucestershire next week, starting with a run at their own Studio Theatre followed by a rural tour, taking in Cirencester and Tetbury.

Watching Out is an evening of comedy on the theme of being watched.

Hector Bouchard is astounded when a strange woman bursts into his elegant Paris apartment, demanding he make love to her – but only when her husband is watching from the adjoining building.

This 19th century farce by Georges Feydeau is one of three short plays that make up the Everyman Theatre’s own professional production of Watching Out.

The other plays, by John Bassett and Ant Stones, are more contemporary, but all are sharp, funny and follow the theme of watching or being watched. In the same room years later a man waits for visitors on his anniversary. And in the same room, in another time, a group of actors prepare to perform a gender-switched version of Antony and Cleopatra.

The show features Mark Carey and Dani Carbery (who played Frank and Rita in the Everyman’s production of Educating Rita three years ago) and Simon Stanhope (who played Alderman Fitzwarren in last year’s panto).

It’s designed by Corin Hayes and directed by Paul Milton.

In an exciting first for the Everyman the play will be filmed and released as a stream for people to view it at any time.
