THE Godfather of British Pop Art, Sir Peter Blake won international fame in the 1960s with his pioneering images of popular culture. A new exhibition of his work opens at the Wetpaint Gallery in Cirencester tomorrow (Thursday).

His images are born from a love affair with the icons and ephemera of popular culture and his influence on the music world can be summarised by the seminal cover art for the Beatle's Sergeant Pepper album, which will feature in the show as a rarely seen, signed, limited editioned silkscreen. He now works from his studio in Hammersmith, London and maintains a prolific output of work. Last summer, Sir Peter Blake was commissioned by Coca Cola to create a huge piece of artwork which was installed on London's South Bank. A signed, limited edition, silk screen print of the piece, entitled Summer Days, is included in the exhibition.

Wetpaint Gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm, and the exhibition runs until April 19. For further information call 01285 644990.
