THE twenty fifth Nailsworth Festival will take place April 23 - May 4 and a special Silver Jubilee Year programme of events has been lined up in celebration.

Amongst the chief attractions will be Yorkshire poet, comedian and broadcaster Ian McMillan, with his own orchestra , plus popular English soprano Catherine Bott with a programme of 16th century Spanish and Moorish music. And to mark the Gloucester 1000 years, there will be a poetry evening with Gloucestershire poets Peter Wyton and Emily Wills. Thursday, May 1 will see a May Day Comedy Extravaganza at the Five Valleys Leisure Centre, headlined by star of TV and Radio Bob Mills. On a more serene note musician and composer Craig Pruess will be offering the Sacred Sounds of the Sitar at the Matara Centre, Kingscote. Finally, film director and local resident Sir Richard Eyre will be present at the screening of his acclaimed film Notes on a Scandal with Cate Blanchett and Dame Judi Dench, and he will answer questions after the screening.

Festival Saturday falls on Saturday, April 26 and will again offer day long free entertainment through the town. There will be Crafts in Action demonstrations in the Nailsworth Mills Estate, the Anniversary Festival Parade, from the centre of the town to King George V Field, where the increasingly popular Nailstock, now in its 5th year, will be featuring 14 local bands and groups through to midnight.
