TALENTED teen singer Ruth Royall from Ebley will sing for a place in the final of the Live and Unsigned 2008 competition for the under 18s this Sunday.

Ruth, at 17, has already gained local acclaim as lead singer with popular band Sub Justice and with her powerful solo performances.

To get to the regional finals, Ruth has battled through rounds of auditions and a semi final live show.

Live and Unsigned is a national music competition for unsigned bands and singers to compete live. The acts taking part are encouraged to do their own thing - be individual, original, and perform their own genre and style.

If successful, Ruth will have a shot at winning the under 18 prize, which includes recording her own complete album, working with vocal coaches in recording studios and recording a track written by Lemar and Mark Hill (producer of Craig David).

The regional final show will be held at St George's, Bristol, on Sunday, April 20.

Ruth is a self taught pianist and guitarist and her influences include Tracy Chapman, Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell.

"I tend to write about what's going on around me and what's going on with me. I'm not so much a political writer, I'm more interested in emotions," she said.

Ruth is currently studying music in Bristol and launches her EP, Music in Words, this week.
