STUDENTS at the Waldorf College in Stroud have been so moved by the plight of Bedouin tribes in the Sinai desert in their struggle to maintain a supply of fresh water that they have put on a mini fundraising festival to help.
The Sinai Bedouin Festival is being held at the Waldorf College, Lansdown on Saturday. During the day attractions will include a Bedouin craft market and Sinai exhibition and in the evening, there will be a Bedouin banquet in the evening, with Egyptian dancing and live music. "We're putting on this event in order to support Bedouin tribes in the Sinai desert with a basic water project infrastructure. The aim of this is to help the Bedouin retain a certain degree of autonomy as nomadic tribes and enable them to return, with their families, to some of the ancient gardens built by their ancestors in the high mountainous region of the Sinai desert," said student Patrick Hudon.
"The scarcity of potable water in certain areas of the world is appalling considering the demand for a constant flow in other regions. England for example, which has a high level of rain fall, doesn't recycle its valuable water resource. Our goal is to help build a water retention dam with the Bedouin in the high mountain region of the Sinai.

"Many of us have been working throughout the year to realise this project, but have unfortunately fallen short of our goal. Most students have been putting their earnings from weekend jobs towards the costs of getting themselves there. As a student body we have put on several other events such as open mic evenings at Star Anise Arts Cafe and music events at The Space which have been quite successful," he said.
