Police are this morning appealing for witnesses to an accident on the M5.

At around 2.40pm on Wednesday May 14 a road traffic collision occurred on the M5 northbound between junction 12 and junction 11a.

A single vehicle, a 20 ton lorry, was seen to leave the carriageway and travel down an embankment, where it caught fire.

A body was been recovered from the area and the coroner has been informed of the death.

The motorway was been closed northbound from junction 12 to allow the emergency services access to the scene.

There were long queues up to junction 12, and motorists are being asked to avoid the scene to help ease congestion.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234, quoting incident number 304 of May 14.
