Christian comment
Rev Denise Cole, Benefice of Randwick, and Whiteshill with Paganhill
LAST week I collected my border collie from the pet parlour where her coat had been stripped. She had previously been panting and lethargic in the heat but now was full of energy and raring to enjoy life at full tilt.
It reminded me of when I became a Christian at the age of 39 years.
Until then I had thought I had coped with life pretty well, even though lots of baggage and illness had been hampering my joy of life.
Then came the day, when I had an experience that showed me that God is real, God is alive, and God is always with us, just waiting for the opportunity to speak to us.
It was a really life-changing experience and one that 25 years later I am still learning from, that God of the Universe is all powerful and is to be trusted.
He is so wonderful and is there for everyone.
Problems and illness still follow me, but how I cope with them has changed for ever. I'm by no means perfect in any sense but God enables me to deal with that too, as he alone can wash away the sin and guilt.
I am not anyone special, and if God will do this for me, he will do it for anyone and everyone.
Why do we choose to wear our heavy, worldly coats and struggle through life carrying them on us?
If we let God clip them off and wash us clean, then we too can feel uplifted, lightened, clean and joyful.
I was with about 30 other Christians when, unexpectedly, it happened to me. If you need to share your load, and have someone pray with you, please seek out a priest, vicar, minister, or Christian friend. You will never regret it.
