Wand: Stroud can go up

JON WAND insists Stroud can gain promotion in his first season season as captain.

Scrum-half Wand, 22, replaces Adam Tarplee in his new role and he revealed he is relishing the opportunity of building on the club's joint second place in the league last season, which saw the Fromehall Park side narrowly lose out on promotion by points difference, Wand said: "I captained the side once last season but to be given the role this season is a massive honour.

"Promotion is my aim and the players know that. The spirit in the camp is fantastic and we hope we can go one better this season."

Wand will be assisted by head coach Nick Nelmes and assistant coach Ed Crampton The make-up of the side is unlikely to change but Wand will be able to welcome back centre Dan Gordon from Cinderford. Josh Lister, Noah Wace and Matt Foggarty will also be available throughout the season.

The Fromehall Park side begin preparations for the forthcoming season on Thursday, July 10 at 7pm.

This year's Annual General Meeting with be held at Stroud Rugby Club on Wednesday, July 23at 7.30pm - all members welcome.
