MORE than 2,000 sandbags were distributed by Stroud District Council and its contractors over the weekend to protect homes from flooding.

Whilst the situation in Stroud is improving, SDC has replenished its stock of sandbags and is working with town and parish councils to ensure that local communities have access to supplies.

David Hagg, chief executive of SDC, said:  “Council officers, the emergency agencies, parish councils and our major contractors worked hard over the weekend to keep the district safe and protect homes.

“I would like to thank them for all of their hard work so far and would reiterate to our communities that we are still on hand to help.”

A flood warning remains in place for the River Frome and a flood alert is in place for the River Cam.

SDC is encouraging people to keep an eye on vulnerable neighbours and to contact neighbourhood wardens for assistance if needed.
