STROUD High School student Sophia Rawlinson is raising money for a trip to South Africa where she will help to build a home for a family in a disadvantaged area.

Sophia, 15, of Brownshill, needs to raise £1,450 to take part in the South Africa ReBuild Project with her youth group Psalms.

Besides building work, Sophia will help at workshops with children and do some sightseeing during the 11-day trip in the summer holidays next year.

She is already set to make £500 by Christmas by selling unwanted jewellery at fairs across the district and she had a stall at Bisley Christmas Fair on Saturday.

Sophia said: "I sent an email out to friends and family asking if they had any unwanted jewellery.

"There was an amazing response with literally hundreds of items arriving through the post, from costume jewellery and vintage items to gold and silver pieces."

Sophia will be selling jewellery on Saturday at Marling School Christmas Craft Fair from 10.30am and later at Bussage Primary School from 1pm and she will have a stall at Nailsworth Fair on Sunday, December 16.

She has also entered more expensive items to Stroud Auction House's December auction.
