ADVENTUROUS teenager Ben Rolfe, 16, is planning to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in an attempt to raise £10,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Whitminster youngster will begin the thousand mile journey on August 3 next year from the tip of Cornwall at Land’s End, and will arrive in John O’Groats in Scotland 14 days later.

Ben who is in Year 12 at St Peter’s Sixth Form, Gloucester, said he just wanted to do something for charity.

He added: “I though that this cycle ride would be a fun way of raising money for a worthy cause.”

Six young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK and Teenage Cancer Trust exists to improve their quality of life.

Ben of School Lane, Whitminster, lives at home with his mum Anne, dad Nigel, and 12-year-old sister, Jessica.

He is embarking on the journey with a team of riders through the organisation moreadventure who will attempt the journey in 14 days, averaging 70 miles a day.

The 16-year-old has raised £2,000 already and is well on the way to his £10,000 target.

“So far all the money has come from my family, friends and school, all of whom have donated to me through sponsorship forms and my website page,” he said.

“There are a number of fundraising events planned in the new year to help me raise money, including getting some of my friends to put on gigs and organising local club nights.”

Ben is hosting a teenage club night at Sugar Nightclub, Nelson Street, Stroud, on Wednesday, December 19. Tickets cost £5 and all the money will be going towards his sponsorship target.

The teenager has also raised money through bucket collections outside his local Tesco in Quedgeley, which he plans to continue doing between now and August.
