PUPILS and staff at Minchinhampton Primary School are bidding a fond farewell to teaching assistant Sally Savage, who is leaving after 23 years.

Mrs Savage has been working mainly with reception classes since she joined the school in 1989 but has also assisted with Year 6 residential trips to locations across the country.

She is leaving today, Wednesday, to spend more time with her family.

Mrs Savage, 60, who lives in Uplands, Stroud said: "I have had a very happy time and I will miss the children. I have seen lots of change during my time here in particular the move to the new school in 1999.

"There are now children here whose parents I remember when they were in my first reception class.

"I have recently become a grandmother and I am looking forward to spending time with my granddaughter Daisy and my elderly mother."

Mrs Savage played a vital role in encouraging the school to recycle and has helped to organise 23 school nativity plays.

Staff and pupils past and present will say goodbye at a tea party at the school today, Wednesday.
