IN Nailsworth, 2012 has been a year of celebration for our town.

Back in the spring we held our excellent Festival Week which attracted more people than ever.

Then, in June, we held five days of family fun and enjoyment to celebrate our Queen's diamond jubilee.

This event culminated in an evening of free entertainment in the King George V Playing Field and the finale was a firework display which will be remembered by many people for years to come.

These events were only possible due to the community spirit of many volunteers, which I am proud to say still exists in Nailsworth.  The 'icing on the cake' was the open deck bus tour and reception at the Town Hall to celebrate Pete Reed's achievement of winning the second gold medal of his career at this year's Olympic Games.

Pete is a great guy and he was pleased to chat with and have his photo taken with his fellow Nailsworthians.

During 2013 the town council looks forward to the opening of our new Town Information Centre in the old police station and improvements to our main children's play area.

Also, after waiting for many years, a new floodlit multi-games area (MUGA) is to be built on the primary school campus.

On behalf of myself and my fellow town councillors I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
