THE Campaign to Protect Rural England launched its annual awards last week to celebrate outstanding projects which benefit the public and the environment.
Last year, Stroud District Council's ambitious canal restoration scheme was recognised along with a gas pipeline project, a bridge repair, a skill centre for a commercial orchard, a Roman heritage visitor centre and the renovation of a tithe barn.
In previous years, village stores, homes, museums, village halls and townscapes have also received awards.
CPRE's Gloucestershire chairman, Charlie Watson, said: "The awards are not a competition. They acknowledge projects creating a sustainable economy, supporting the environment and enhancing the social life of the countryside."
Since the CPRE Gloucestershire Awards were launched in 2007, 28 schemes have received awards.
Anyone can nominate a project, whether it is one they have been involved with personally or one they simply admire.
Award recipients will be announced at a special CPRE Gloucestershire event in October.
