Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service scouts county for on-call firefighters
11:00am Sunday 27th January 2013 in News By SNJ Reporter
OVER the next couple of weeks Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service will scout the county looking for people willing to give up their free time to become a retained firefighter.
Retained staff are vital to the service, providing fire and rescue cover to around 60 per cent of the UK.
Recruitment nights are being held at Painswick Fire Station on Wednesday, from 6.30pm to 9pm and at Stroud Fire Station on Thursday, from 6.30pm to 9pm.
Gloucestershire's Chief Fire Officer Jon Hall said: "This is a chance to become a member of a highly-skilled team and to contribute to the safety of the communities in which we all live.
"It's an important job, which requires great energy and dedication."
Applicants must be over 18, physically fit and living or working within five minutes of a fire station.
Successful applicants will be given full training in attending emergencies and paid a monthly retainer fee, including additional pay for call-outs.
