Celebrated Guardian sports writer Frank Keating began his career on the SNJ

CELEBRATED Guardian sports journalist Frank Keating, who has died aged 75, began his career as a reporter on the Stroud News & Journal in the 1950s.

Keating, a widely respected sports writer known for his inventive use of language, joined the SNJ in 1956 before joining the Hereford Times aged 20.

He got a job as a sub editor on the Guardian in 1963.
