POTHOLES, speed limits, dog fouling and A-boards were among the topics discussed at a drop-in session in Nailsworth on Saturday.

Residents were invited to the session at The Mortimer Rooms to talk to councillors representing Nailsworth.

County councillor Stan Waddington, district councillors Emma Sims and Paul Carter, and town councillors Myles Robinson, Jonathan Duckworth and Paul Carter were available to discuss services such as housing, highways, social services, education and recreation.

One issue raised was road safety on the A46 through the town.

Gloucestershire County Council has proposed a scheme of better signs and road markings but some feel more should be done including extending the 30mph zone and a pedestrian crossing at Dunkirk Mill.

A public meeting was held on Monday night specifically for residents to raise their concerns about this issue in preparation for a meeting between Nailsworth mayor Steve Robinson and two senior highways officials on Friday, February 8.

Nailsworth Town Council agreed at its October meeting that twice a year, councillors from the county, district and town councils should hold drop-in sessions.

It was noted that a one-year trial take place with another session due to be held in six months time at the Arkell Centre.

Myles Robinson, deputy mayor said "We hoped this would be an opportunity for residents to raise queries with the appropriate councillor.

"It was really well attended and although we originally planned to hold the surgeries twice a year we will now look to hold them more frequently."
