STROUD MP Neil Carmichael is expected to vote in favour of legalising gay marriage later today (Tuesday, February 5).
Ahead of a Commons vote on the same sex couples bill there is talk of a sizeable Tory rebellion, with some reports suggesting that as many as 120 Conservative MPs could oppose the move.
However, Mr Carmichael has pledged to support equal marriage, describing it as a step towards a ‘more tolerant’ society.
Speaking to the SNJ in January, Mr Carmichael said: "My perspective is that I think we have to be modern and up-front about the issue.
"There are some people who have different views but I think we have got to have a tolerant society.
"We should be open minded enough to recognise that and I will vote to support gay marriage."

I watched this debate on t.v. and was disturbed by the amount of homosexual members that are actually in parliament.
lets not forget traditional family values. and in particular teaching our children who are under 18.
marriage has been an institution for over a thousand years and long before parliament arrived, so why is parliament interfering with a core value to assist homosexuals and lesbians.
Did you say all these close minded things when non-whites were allowed into parliament too?
I'm sure somebody who names themselves after a serial rapist and murderer will have strong core values indeed.
