STUDENTS at Marling School talked their way to success to win the coveted Taylor Trophy debating competition recently.
Tom Carlile and Sean Kemsley, both 15, were asked to oppose the motion 'This house would make English the working language of the European Union' and were commended by judges for their extensive knowledge and articulate delivery.
They overcame opposition from schools from across the Midlands to get through two heats before reaching the final held at Bromsgrove School on Tuesday, January 29, where they were pitted against teams from Hereford Cathedral School, Pershore High School, Malvern St James and Solihull School.
Jayne Southwell, head of English at Marling, said: "The boys worked extremely hard preparing for the debate and really did deserve the victory."
Students Tom Davies and Jonathon Keddie made it through to the semi-final of the competition.
