INSPECTORS have praised the teaching of English at Stroud High School.
Ofsted found that students were enthusiastic about their English lessons and their behaviour and extended concentration was 'exemplary' during the inspection on Tuesday, January 29, and Wednesday, January 30.
Samples of work were assessed and ten lesson observations carried out at the girls' grammar school with the English department receiving an overall 'outstanding' rating.
Headteacher Tim Withers said: "This was a great opportunity to benchmark our teaching and student progress alongside that of other schools.
"I am absolutely delighted for the team which has worked so hard to achieve such high standards.
"This is a department whose creativity, innovation and energy is a great source of strength to the school."
Mr Withers thanked the contribution made by its sixth form partner schools Archway and Marling.
