Drama society panto raffle funds village shop sign

A VILLAGE shop sign has been replaced following a kind act by members of a popular amateur dramatics society.
The sign at Yew Trees Stores in High Street, King's Stanley broke after being blown down in high winds at the end of December.
When members of the Stanley Players heard about it, they decided to donate money raised from a raffle held during their annual pantomime, which this year was Sleeping Beauty, to store owner Julie Granger to pay for a replacement.
"We wanted to give something back to the village and Julie is an integral part of our little community," said Bill Parry, a member of the group.
Just a month after the sign was broken, Julie received a £200 cheque.
"I was a bit taken a back, it was so lovely of them," said Julie, who has owned the shop for six years.
Stanley Players Brian Culver and Alan King dressed up and visited the store on Monday with their chairman Carol Dyer.
