RESIDENTS battling plans for 140 houses in the Slad Valley gathered in Stroud High Street on Saturday to raise awareness about their campaign.

Representatives of Slad Valley Action Group handed out leaflets to shoppers and a young member of the group dressed up as a fox to draw attention to the potential threat to wildlife.

The group is fighting plans by Cheshire-based developer Gladman for 140 homes in Baxter's Field off Summer Street in Stroud.

They claim the development would spoil views of the surrounding Slad Valley, immortalised by Laurie Lee.

Gladman, which has now submitted a planning application, says the proposals will address the shortage of housing in Stroud.
