ROAD resurfacing work to improve Elmgrove Road East in Hardwicke will begin today.
The complete length of the road from its junction with the B4008 will be resurfaced which means that the road will be closed between 9am and 4.30pm from today, Monday, February 25 until Wednesday, February 27.
Parking along Elmgrove Road East will not be allowed throughout the duration of the road resurfacing work but pedestrian access will be maintained.
Access for vehicles during the works will be limited due to the nature of the work and the size of machinery to be used.
For this reason residents of Elmgrove Road East, the Elmgrove estate, Hildyard Close and the Springfield estate are being asked to temporarily park their vehicles outside of the works area if they need to use their vehicles during the closure times.
Hardwicke shop and Post Office will be open as usual but access will only be possible on foot for the duration of the works.
Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for communities, said: "This resurfacing work is designed to significantly improve this well-used road for the benefit of local residents.
"The closure is necessary to make sure all work can be done quickly and safely and we would ask local people to be patient while the improvements are made."
Anthony Blackburn, county councillor for North Stroud said: " I and local residents have been trying to get Elmgrove Road East repaired for three years and I am pleased that Highways have at last got round to it.
"If there are any problems which need following up, please contact me."
