Plans for bus station could reduce number of free parking spaces in Nailsworth

PROPOSED alterations to Nailsworth bus station could result in a loss of free car parking spaces, it has been revealed.
Following pedestrian safety surveys, Stroud District Council has put forward two schemes to redesign the station in Old Market.
At a town council meeting on Tuesday, February 19, Cllr Sue Reed said: "Both schemes would result in a loss of parking spaces and we should strongly oppose any reduction in the existing 24 free spaces in Old Market."
The first scheme involves reducing the number of existing bus bays from three to two while the second scheme involves creating two bus bays in the parking area opposite The Passage to India restaurant.
Councillors unanimously agreed that they would prefer to retain the existing layout of the bus station and would not support any scheme which resulted in the loss of any free parking spaces.
They would however support appropriate steps to 'improve aesthetics and to manage any risk to pedestrians'.
