A PRESTIGIOUS award has underlined Stroud Farmers Market's growing reputation.

FARMA, the Farm and Retail Markets Association, has awarded it the renowned Farmers Market of the Year award for 2013, in a joint top prize with Surbiton market in London.

The UK-wide award is the most coveted prize available for farmers markets as it is awarded by the farm retail sector itself.

It is only open to markets which are accredited as genuine, adhere to strict guidelines and are willing to submit themselves to inspection.

Stroud Farmers Market manager Kardien Gerbrands said: "The success of the market is down to two main things - the quality of the produce brought to the market by our farmers and producers, and the commitment of the Stroud customers to the market and that produce.

"We are delighted that this award will once again highlight this special event happening in Stroud"

FARMA's secretary Rita Exner, said: "It is an achievement of which they can all be very proud."
