CHALFORD students are trying to keep themselves and their school colleagues’ safe by designing road safety signs to be hung around the schools in the parish.

Pupils from Bussage, Chalford Hill and Christchurch schools, along with Gloucestershire Police, Stroud District Council and Chalford Parish Council all worked together to produce the signs which will be hung outside the schools near the main road.

The campaign came after police speed checks outside the schools discovered that many of the speeding vehicles were driven by parents.

PC Emma Beard said: "Firstly I would like to congratulate the students on their winning designs, they look fantastic and help get the message of road safety out to the public.

"Responsible driving is important everywhere, but especially around schools. The new signs will help spread the message to all."

The students who produced the winning signs received Amazon vouchers and a copy of their winning design made into a sign.
