Angelic Jenna raised the roof at Gloucester Cathedral
JENNA Monroe has the voice of an angel and she certainly blessed the Gloucester Cathedral audience with her unique and captivating voice.
Born in Michigan, the singer/pianist was raised in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of north-eastern California, but her roots are now firmly embedded within the Five Valleys.
The sublime Cathedral acoustics complimented her and this adopted Stroudie delivered in spades.
Her eclectic mix — from English hymn to American folk, spiritual to country — remained fresh and engaging from start to finish.
The seated audience was far from sedate as they accompanied Jenna on sweet renditions of John Denver’s Leaving On A Jet Plane, Emmylou Harris’ Lost Unto This World and the rousing Lord Of The Dance.
A personal highlight was Jenna’s stirring version of Fairground Attraction singer Eddi Reader’s Hallelujah.
Dressed strikingly in black, her glistening voice is the purest your ears will ever hear. She uplifted the appreciative audience and added warm conversation throughout her hour set.
Not to be missed, Jenna returns to Stroud on Saturday, March 23. She can be seen at the School of Science and Art, Lansdown. Tickets on the door: £8 & £6.
