DRIVERS can expect long delays as a bridge in Quedgeley closes for five weeks.
The Grange Estate Bridge, which carries Greenhill Drive one way over the A38 Southern Connector, will be closed for repairs from Monday March 18.
There has been settlement of the embankment on the Tuffley side since it was built in the 1970s, and as a result, part of the parapet has become separated from the safety fence on the approach to the bridge.
A new approach fence, on a concrete piled foundation, will be installed by Gloucestershire Highways to prevent further movement.
This will be tied in to the existing parapet to provide continuous protection.
Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for communities, said: "This is necessary work to improve the safety of the bridge.
"There will be some disruption and we ask people to please be patient while we carry out these works."
