Young people encouraged to give blood in Stroud

Students were raising awareness to encourage more young people in Gloucestershire to become blood donors at Stroud College on Monday
MORE young people are being encouraged to give blood following a drop in the number of 17-24 year-olds registered to donate.
NHS blood and transplant staff visited Stroud and South Gloucestershire College on Monday, March 4, to raise awareness about blood donation and recruit new donors.
Although the NHS recently ran a successful national campaign to sign-up 100,000 new donors in 100 days, it is still desperate for more young people to come forward.
The event at the college saw students encouraged to use social media to spread the word about the need for more donors.
Pupils also had the opportunity to speak to 17-year-old Claudio Baldari, who suffers from Aplastic anaemia and needed blood transfusions following treatment five years ago.
"I was really lucky we had these blood donors. Without them I would have been in serious trouble," he said.
The NHS blood and transplant team say they need more than 1,000 new registrations every day to replace donors who can no longer donate.
