A CHARITY ball held in memory of Adrian Wellings who died suddenly of a heart attack raised more than £6,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

Adrian died 11 years ago at just 48 years old as he was walking to his home in Nympsfield.

More than 400 people attended the event organised by his sister Melanie at Frocester Cricket Club on Friday, February 14.

Guests were treated to music, comedy, a three-course meal and an auction with a holiday to Marbella and a VIP weekend at Silverstone among the prizes donated.

Staff from The Old Fleece in Woodchester sold raffle tickets helping to bring the total raised to more than £6,000.

"All of the hard work paid off and I am so pleased," said Melanie, 51, who lives in King's Stanley.

"Adrian was taken from us so suddenly without any warning so it was really important to me that I did something to help such an important charity."

Melanie plans to make it an annual event involving other charities.
