SINGING couple Katie Smith and Harry Jones have made it through to the next stage of hit BBC 1 talent show The Voice.

Katie, from King’s Stanley, and Harry, from Tetbury, travelled to Salford in December to audition for the show and their performance was shown on Saturday night.

The duo, who have been dating for a year and perform under their stage name Smith & Jones, impressed coaches Danny O'Donoghue, Tom Jones, Jessie J and will.i.am with a version of the track Candy by singer Paolo Nutini.

But it was Danny, frontman of The Script, who chose the pair to join his team and go through to the next round.

Speaking to the SNJ, Katie, 19, who is studying English literature and drama at Oxford Brookes University, said: "We have been really excited to watch it on TV and to see what everyone thought of us.

"It has been non-stop with hundred of people contacting us with lovely comments on the internet."

Harry, 20, a full time musician, added: "Being a couple helps us because it is a lot easier to do stressful things together."

Katie and Harry met at a charity variety show in Stroud in 2011.

Katie is a previous Stroud’s Got Talent winner while Harry Jones is a previous Door Youth Project Undiscovered Talent show winner.

Former Stroud High School pupil Katie hit the headlines last week as newspapers and magazines picked up on the fact that she is an ex-girlfriend of another Harry - One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

She got through to the bootcamp stage of the X Factor in 2010 and dated Styles, a fellow contestant, for several weeks.

But Katie failed to make it to the live finals — while Harry was put with four other lads to form One Direction.

Katie said: "People will always love gossip but I think it was great publicity for Smith & Jones and hopefully people who tuned in because of the stories will now be fans."
