HARRY Potter star Rupert Grint had to use brute strength rather than magic when he helped pull an eight tonne lorry through Stroud on Bank Holiday Monday.

When organiser Gary Gardner called for one last volunteer to make up an impromptu team, the 24-year-old actor's mum, Joanna, shouted 'Rupert will do it'.

Rupert helped make up the last team of the day after one group failed to turn up.

The Stroud Truck Pull Challenge saw teams of 15 heave a Dairy Crest lorry along Merrywalks in aid of the Door Youth Project.

Those competing were the police, fire service, the British Oak, the Queen Victoria, Cirencester College, Stroud Rugby Club, Cainscross Rugby Club, the Royal Mail, Forest Green Gym, Fitness Mill and Fifth Dimension gym, which won in 5 mins, 52 secs.

Rupert travelled to Stroud from Hertfordshire to watch his sister Samantha perform with her band Ghost of Samantha.

RemedySounds also played and a school dance competition was held.
