MUM Frances Clark-Stone is calling for drivers to slow down in Stroud's Bisley Road after her 12-year-old daughter was knocked over by a car outside her home, fracturing her ankle in two places.

Lola, a Stroud High School pupil, said her concentration lapsed for a split second when the accident happened at 4.30pm last Tuesday, leaving her with a broken tibia and fibula.

"I stepped out and I just remember something hit me and I was on the floor clutching my leg, which just hurt so much," she said.

The family are not blaming the driver for what happened - he was well within the 30mph limit - but say many motorists do ignore the speed restrictions.

Frances, 44, believes Lola would be dead if the driver had been speeding, and the family is now backing a campaign by Stroud town councillor Andy Treacher to have the residential road made into a 20mph zone.

"We often see young men or people in 4x4s shooting down the road," she said.

"We were just lucky it wasn't one of them."
