Two people sentenced for keeping a brothel in Cheltenham have been ordered to pay back their gains.

During the financial confiscation hearing at Gloucester Crown Court on Monday June 24, under the Proceeds of Crime Act, Ailing Zhuang and Barry Champion who were convicted of conspiracy to manage/assist in the management of a brothel were ruled to have benefitted from their crimes to the amount of £164,829 Ailing Zhuang was ruled to have benefitted to the amount of £123,509 has been forced to pay the available amount of £4,054 Barry Champion was ruled to have benefitted to the amount of £41,319 has been forced to pay £4,054. Each will have 28 days to pay or go to prison for 3 months. Both will owe the remainder of the gains for the rest of their life. If either inherits assets in the future, the confiscation can be revisited and the assets used against the amount that they owe.

Ailing Zhuang is due to be deported at the end of her prison sentence.

Detective Inspector Sue Bradshaw said “This latest hearing shows the determination of Gloucestershire Constabulary to prosecute and recover funds from criminals.

“It should send a clear message to offenders that the Constabulary will make whatever effort is needed to bring those who benefit from crime to justice”
