A PUBLIC consultation into proposals for a new ASDA supermarket at Daniels Industrial Estate in Bath Road will take place later this month.

Representatives from ASDA and the developers will be on hand to answer questions across three days at Stroud Rugby Club at Fromehall Park, Dudbridge Hill, Stroud.

The consultation takes place from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday, July 18, from 11am to 6pm on Friday, July 19, and 10am to 1pm on Saturday, July 20.

Paul Fong, MD of planning consultants Hunter Page Planning, said feedback from the public was essential before a planning application is submitted to Stroud District Council.

“We believe a supermarket would regenerate and improve the physical appearance of this area and give shoppers more variety and choice in a very sustainable location. It would have a positive economic effect on the town, creating many new jobs," he said.

"But before we submit a planning application it is important to take local views on board and adapt our proposals accordingly. We hope as many people as possible will come along."

Leicestershire-based developer Davidsons Crossmark says the store at the trading estate in Lightpill will create 250 jobs.

Proposals include a medium sized retail store, parking for more than 300 cars, a petrol station and a café.
