THOUSANDS will flock to the Queen of the Cotswolds this weekend for the annual spectacular that is Art Couture Painswick.

The unique art show - now in its fourth year - has grown in popularity since its inception in 2010 mainly because of quirky costumes and remarkable originality.

Nearly 100 designers - ranging from school children to professionals - will dress their models in the most mind-boggling materials ranging from electrical wire and clip ties to full body paint and send them to strut their stuff on catwalks placed throughout the quintessential country village.

This year's themes are the World Where You Live, Metamorphosis, Well Suited and Head Gear.

The main focus for the event is the iconic Painswick churchyard surrounded by its legendary 99 yew trees which will pay host to the main catwalk stage.

There will also be stalls selling arts and crafts, local food and produce as well as street entertainers such as internationally renowned troupe of clowns, La Nevet Bete, and live music by artists including Vince Freeman and George Montague.

Dr Dawn Harper from Channel 4's Embarrassing Bodies and local personality Will Fair will compere the festival between 11am and 7pm on Sunday, July 14.

Meanwhile, milliner Denise Innes, textile artist Carole Waller and conceptual artist Jess Eaton will make up the judging panel.

Frances Day, director of Art Couture Painswick, said: "One of the best things about being part of this festival is to see the look of complete amazement on people's faces when confronted with the skill, ingenuity and imagination of the artists who contribute.

"Often the most amazing pieces are created by young amateurs and we are proud that the whole day is so completely inclusive."

Following Art Couture Painswick the Arts Festival continues for six weeks offering over 30 different art events and activities.
