Travellers move on after less than 24 hours in Stonehouse car park
A GROUP of travellers were moved on less than 24 hours after setting up camp in the car park in Stonehouse high street.
Around four caravans were parked in the district council owned car park between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
"The travellers complied promptly and have left the site. We are grateful for the efforts of Gloucestershire Police, whose swift action meant that disruption for local people was minimised."
Sergeant Dan Wood said: "We are very happy with the outcome of this incident and would like to thank the local community for their patience.
"We would also like to commend the common sense showed by those occupying the site and their willingness to engage with officers.
"No enforcement powers were used and the vehicles and their occupants moved on from the site at Police request in conjunction with Stroud District Council.
"Today's action again displays to the people of Stonehouse that the Neighbourhood Policing Team will deal proactively and quickly to issues that arise."
