NEIL Carmichael lifted the lid on life as an MP as he opened the new toilets at The Star Inn in Whiteshill on Wednesday (September 18).

The Conservative politician who has previously brushed off fears he might lose his own seat cut a length of toilet roll, instead of the traditional ribbon, to mark the official opening of the new loos.

He was invited along to unveil the flush new bogs by pub landlord Ken Dickens, who is seeking to transform the Star by making a raft of interior improvements.

The installation of the new toilets is just the first step in a major refurbishment project he has planned, with a new kitchen and dining space to follow.

“With the toilets completed and operational we will now remove the old ones and remove the internal and external walls which, when encompassed by the new extension, will double the size of the bar,” said Ken.

A four-day beer festival, with more than 20 ales on offer, will be held in celebration at The Star once the refurbishment work comes to an end in around six weeks.
