GREEN initiatives for housing have secured Stroud District Council a place in the final of the South West Green Energy Awards.
The council has been shortlisted for the most proactive local authority category and will now go through to the final stage of judging before the winners are announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, November 26 in Bath.
Cllr Mattie Ross, chair of SDC’s housing committee, said: “It’s great to be in the running for an environmental award for our housing work.
“Aside from our earlier green initiatives the next three years will see us spend £12million on installing solar panels and air source heat pumps in 1,000 properties which struggle with high bills as they have no mains gas supply.
The South West Green Energy Awards, now in their 10th year, recognise the increasing importance that renewable energy and energy efficiency play in the West Country in providing solutions to the threat of climate change.
