SKATERS have been left without a ramp after arsonists targeted a play area in Whitminster yesterday, Wednesday.
Firefighters were called to the playing field in School Lane at 6pm after a member of staff from Whitminster Primary School attempted to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.
Police spokesman Simon Masters said there is CCTV footage from the school which will hopefully help them identify how the fire started.
"Investigations are ongoing but the incident is being treated as suspicious," he said.
Whitminster Parish Council chairman John Jones said: "I am extremely angry. The parish council paid for the wooden skate ramp to be installed over ten years ago and it has been well used since then but someone has decided it should be set on fire.
"The skate ramp will now have to be closed and fenced off until it can be repaired."
