Dozens to run in memory of their much-loved friend Nick Bonnie
Family and friends of Nick Bonnie are running the Stroud Half Marathon to raise money for The Prince's Trust
DOZENS of friends and family will run the Stroud Half Marathon next weekend in memory of Nick Bonnie, who died after collapsing in a nightclub.
Nick, 30, who grew up in King’s Stanley, died in the early hours of Saturday, September 28, at the Warehouse Project in Manchester.
Now his friends and family have decided to complete the gruelling 13-mile race in his memory and to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust, for which Nick worked for eight years in Bristol.
The team of 39 runners will take on the challenge wearing T-shirts emblazoned with Nick’s face while dozens more will cheer them on at the finish line.
They have already raised more than £3,000.
Friend Paul Tabb, 30, said: “Doing the half marathon has given us something to focus on.
“He had so many friends from so many circles and it has brought us all together.
“People we don’t even know have been touched by Nick’s story and what we are doing and have donated.
“It has been unbelievable. Within one day we had raised £1,000.”
Nick played a pivotal role in securing a number of large contracts for The Prince’s Trust worth more than £500,000.
His friend George Jones, 27, said: “He was very passionate about his job and always told us about what he was doing.
“It is going to be difficult because we are not runners but Nick finished the Tough Mudder challenge the week before he died so if he can do that then we can do this.”
Also running the race is Nick’s mother Pauline, brother Ryan and cousin Martyn King.
Mrs Bonnie said: “It has given us something to focus on after the emotions of that weekend.
“It would have been his birthday the day after the race so it will be a sad time.
“We have been so overwhelmed by the support and the number of people who are doing this.”
Nick’s father Andy Bonnie added: “Nick would be so proud of what they are all doing.”
