A RUNNING enthusiast whose garden looks over the proposed Baxter’s Field site is running the Stroud half marathon on Sunday to raise money for the action group fighting the development.
Alastair Dickinson, 60, who lives in Summer Street, Stroud, has run in a number of long distance races over the years, including the London marathon, but on Sunday he is running to stop 140 new homes being built in his back yard.
“I would really like to raise a couple of hundred pounds to help the Slad Valley Action Group fight the planning appeal and put a stop to this development once and for all,” said Alastair, who has two sons.
"For my training I have been building up my fitness to the point where I am now going for a run three times a week.
"My best ever time for a half marathon is one hour thirty minutes but I am not expecting to beat that. I would be happy to finish the race in under two hours.
"I'm looking forward to the race as there is always a great comradery between the runners. I just have to make sure that I pace myself and remember it's a marathon not a sprint."
