SNJ reporter Hayley Mortimer hoping to raise hundreds for the Door Youth Project
SNJ reporter Hayley Mortimer is always racing to meet deadlines in the newsroom but on Sunday she is taking on an entirely new challenge when she runs the Stroud half marathon.
Hayley, 23, who has been working at the SNJ for nearly 15 months, was originally going to enter the race just as a personal challenge however she then decided it would be a good opportunity to raise some money for local charity the Door Youth Project.
“While working as a reporter at the SNJ I have seen the great work that The Door does for young people and families in Stroud and I am hoping I can raise a few hundred pounds for the charity,” said Hayley, who wants to finish the race in less than two hours.
“As part of my training I have been attending personal training sessions at Stratford Park Leisure Centre with Sam Ballinger and they have really helped me improve my fitness and stamina.
“I know I should have no problem finishing the race as I have run 13 miles in training but I am still a little bit nervous. I just hope the environment on the day gives me that extra boost to get me over the finish line.”
