TWO accomplished professional singers will join players from The People’s Orchestra for a candlelit performance of festive music.
The Christmas Music by Candlelight concert takes place in Malvern, Worcestershire, on Sunday, 8th December, at 1.30pm.
Professional soprano Sophie Pullen and award-winning bass-baritone Bozidar Smiljanic will share the stage at the Malvern Forum Theatre with dozens of enthusiasts from Midlands-based community venture The People’s Orchestra for what promises to be an atmospheric and intimate performance.
During the Christmas Music by Candlelight concert, the star duo will lend their vocal talents to celebrated pieces from Handel’s ‘Messiah’, including the stunning ‘Hallelujah Chorus’, as well as helping The People’s Orchestra to raise the roof with a selection of much-loved Christmas carols and readings of evocative Yuletide poetry.
Sophie Pullen said she is excited at the prospect of singing Christmas classics alongside The People’s Orchestra in such an atmospheric setting.
She said: “The highlight of Christmas Music by Candlelight for me will be singing ‘I know that my Redeemer liveth’, from Handel’s ‘Messiah’, because it is such an uplifting and definite sort of work. ‘Messiah’ captures everything about Christmas – it’s moving in a sombre way. It’s a great piece of work to listen to.”
She added: “I have heard of Bozidar, but I have never sung with him before. He sounds like a fantastic singer and I’m really looking forward to meeting him and hearing him sing.”
Sarah Marshall, the chief executive of The People’s Orchestra, said: “Performing such celebrated classics as Handel’s ‘Messiah’ by candlelight and in such a wonderful setting in Malvern will be a truly memorable event and a fitting highlight to the year. This concert will be The People’s Orchestra’s crowning achievement to date, and the addition of two highly-gifted singers, in Sophie and Bozidar, will complement the orchestral music beautifully and make this a Christmas concert to remember.”
Tickets for the Christmas Music by Candlelight concert are available through the Malvern Forum Theatre, priced between £9 and £16, excluding booking fee.
