Children help to transform Stonehouse flats

CHILDREN in Stonehouse have been busy transforming a block of flats during their half term holiday.
Trees, birds and rabbits are just some of the images that have been beautifully painted on to the walls of the communal areas of Park Road flats.
The entrance area and stairwells of the council owned flats had been vandalised so parent Paula Jenkinson approached Stroud District Council for permission to brighten it up.
"It was looking very run down and there was some not very nice graffiti," said Paula.
"It was embarrassing when people came to visit.
"I thought it would be nice to brighten it up and the children have loved getting involved.
"It has given them something to do."
Stroud District Council arranged for a white canvas to be installed while residents chose the designs they liked.
Last week children spent three days painting the pictures using stencils.
Charlotte Galling, community development officer at SDC, said: "It is a family block of flats so it needed to look more family friendly.
"The project has come together so well and the children have really enjoyed themselves."
