STAFF and pupils from Marling School are thrilled after receiving an ‘outstanding’ rating from Ofsted.

Four inspectors visited the school over a two day period last month and judged the school in Cainscross Road as 'outstanding' in all four key areas including pupil achievement, quality of teaching, behaviour and leadership and management.

The report particularly highlighted the 'positive approach to study', the 'extremely effective teaching which provides great freedom and exciting opportunities in lessons and the 'excellent progress made across the school including the sixth form'.

Inspectors also praised the 'leadership and management of the school which has greatly benefited from the headteacher’s restructuring of responsibilities'.

Headteacher Dr Stuart Wilson said: “We are all thrilled with the outcome of this inspection which acknowledges the quality of the learning environment provided at Marling School and reflects the hard work and dedication of students, staff and governors.

“We are particularly pleased that the report recognises the great appetite for learning that the boys demonstrate and the consideration that they show their teachers and each other, which creates a harmonious atmosphere to support the social and academic progress of all.

“The report is a tribute to the staff, students, governors and everyone associated with the school and I would like to thank them for their continuing support.”

Praise was also given to the governing body which provides 'both rigorous challenge and warm support in equal measure'.

Chairman of the governing body John Gilbert said: "The staff are incredibly dedicated and have worked hard with the leadership team to achieve this result.

"It confirms the governors’ vision that Marling should be an exceptional school that inspires boys to achieve their full potential."
